Kyoto has topped the 2014 World’s Best Cities poll run by influential travel industry magazine Travel + Leisure. The feat marks the first time Kyoto has taken the top spot in the poll; it became the first Japanese city to appear in the top ten in 2012, placing ninth, and rose to fifth in 2013 before beating Paris, Rome, New York and other popular tourist destinations to take the top prize in 2014.
